The Complete Body of Knowledge

The MAICA Canon

The definitive body of knowledge for building Living Organizations, Living Ecosystems, and the constitutional frameworks that ensure their survival.

MAICA 1

The Living Organization

"Build the Cell"

The Mastery Standard™ A Body of Knowledge for Strategic Mastery (CSSM-BOK)

MAICA 1 establishes the scientific and architectural foundations of the Living Organization or Systems. It explains how organizations achieve viability, resilience, and long-term mastery by governing themselves as coherent, adaptive systems rather than collections of independent functions. The focus is the individual organization—its internal architecture, decision-making, and capacity for sustained success.

The Thermostatic Paradigm

The Thermostatic Paradigm introduces a new way of understanding organizations. Rather than viewing them as machines that simply execute plans, it explains that viable organizations behave like living systems: they continuously sense change, compare reality with purpose, make corrections, and restore alignment. Just as a thermostat regulates temperature, a Living Organization regulates its own viability through constant feedback and adaptive governance.

The Six Axioms of Systemic Mastery

The Six Axioms of Systemic Mastery define the universal principles that govern long-term organizational success. They describe the conditions under which organizations remain viable, adaptive, and resilient despite uncertainty. These axioms provide the philosophical and scientific foundation upon which every other MAICA model is built, serving as the immutable laws of organizational mastery.

The 5P Governance Integration System (5P-GIS™)

The 5P Governance Integration System is the architectural model that aligns the six governing domains of every Living Organization: Positioning, Purpose, People, Process, Platform, and Performance. Positioning serves as the central governing hub around which all other domains must remain aligned. When these domains reinforce one another, organizations become coherent, resilient, and strategically viable. When they drift apart, organizational entropy and decline inevitably follow.

Mastery Score (MS™), OPII™, and d(OPII)/dt

Mastery cannot be managed without measurement. The Mastery Score (MS™) evaluates the organization's current level of architectural maturity and stewardship capability. The Organizational Positioning Integrity Index (OPII™) measures how well the organization maintains alignment around its positioning, while d(OPII)/dt measures the rate at which that alignment is improving or deteriorating over time. Together, these metrics provide executives with a dynamic dashboard for monitoring organizational health rather than relying solely on financial outcomes.

The Autonomic Engine & Conscious Engine

Every Living Organization operates through two complementary systems. The Autonomic Engine governs routine operations, standardized processes, institutional memory, and self-regulating activities that enable stability and efficiency. The Conscious Engine governs strategic thinking, innovation, adaptation, learning, and purposeful transformation. Sustainable mastery depends upon maintaining the proper balance between disciplined execution and intentional evolution.

The Misimi Helix of Mastery (MHM™)

The Misimi Helix of Mastery describes the continuous cycle through which organizations evolve toward higher levels of capability. Rather than viewing growth as a linear progression, the model demonstrates that mastery emerges through repeated cycles of learning, reflection, adaptation, and architectural refinement. Every completed cycle strengthens organizational intelligence, resilience, and long-term viability.

MAICA 2

The Symbiotic Mesh

"Build the Forest"

The Inter-MAICA Standard™ A Body of Knowledge for Ecosystemic Intelligence (IMSP-BOK)

While MAICA 1 explains how individual organizations become viable, MAICA 2 explains how multiple Living Organizations cooperate to create resilient ecosystems. It introduces the principles, protocols, and governance structures that enable organizations to move beyond competition toward intelligent, mutually beneficial collaboration.

The Inter-MAICA Symbiosis Protocol (IMSP™)

The Inter-MAICA Symbiosis Protocol establishes the governance rules that enable autonomous organizations to cooperate without sacrificing their independence. It defines how trust is established, resources are shared, conflicts are resolved, and value is exchanged so that the entire ecosystem becomes stronger than any individual participant.

Hyper-fluid Enterprises

Hyper-fluid Enterprises are organizations designed for continuous adaptation. Rather than relying on rigid structures, they dynamically reconfigure partnerships, capabilities, and resources in response to changing conditions. This flexibility enables rapid innovation while preserving organizational coherence and strategic identity.

Ecosystemic Intelligence

Ecosystemic Intelligence is the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to patterns that emerge across networks of organizations rather than within a single enterprise. It expands leadership from managing individual institutions to governing complex systems of interdependent organizations, creating greater collective resilience and long-term value.

f-CRU™ and Inter-MAICA Bounties

The Fractional Cooperative Resource Unit (f-CRU™) provides a standardized mechanism for measuring, allocating, and exchanging shared resources across cooperating organizations. Inter-MAICA Bounties create incentive structures that reward collaboration, innovation, stewardship, and ecosystem-wide value creation rather than isolated organizational performance.

Symbiotic Contracts

Symbiotic Contracts redefine agreements between organizations. Instead of focusing solely on legal obligations, they establish shared stewardship responsibilities, mutual accountability, adaptive governance mechanisms, and long-term incentives that strengthen both individual organizations and the wider ecosystem.

MAICA 3

Sovereignty, Enforcement, and Institutional Irreversibility

"Build the Constitution"

How Viable Systems Enforce Truth, Refuse Destruction, and Outlive Their Creators (IR-BOK) MAICA 3 addresses one of the greatest challenges facing institutions: ensuring that excellence survives beyond the vision of individual leaders. It establishes the governance architecture through which organizations protect truth, enforce integrity, resist institutional decay, and preserve their founding principles across generations.

Thermostatic Intelligence (TI™)

Architectural Receivership

Architectural Receivership is the formal governance mechanism activated when an organization's core architecture has deteriorated to the point that normal leadership can no longer restore viability. It provides a structured framework for stabilizing, rebuilding, and realigning the institution while protecting its essential mission and long-term purpose.

The Supervisory Stack

The Supervisory Stack defines the multiple layers of governance that monitor, validate, and regulate organizational integrity. From operational oversight to strategic stewardship, each layer performs a distinct role in ensuring that decisions remain aligned with institutional purpose, ethical standards, and architectural coherence.

Designing for Death

Great institutions are designed to outlive their founders. Designing for Death is the discipline of building governance systems, succession mechanisms, knowledge preservation structures, and constitutional safeguards that enable organizations to survive leadership transitions without losing their identity or strategic direction.

The Final Survival Test

The Final Survival Test asks a single defining question: Can the institution continue to fulfill its purpose without its creator? Organizations that pass this test possess the governance, culture, architecture, and adaptive capacity necessary for enduring relevance. Those that fail remain dependent on individuals rather than becoming truly Living Organizations.

"The laws always win. Your only choice is whether to obey them — or be broken by them."
